Jessica was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ, and has been swimming both recreationally and competitively for most of her life. Jessica was a both a lifeguard and swim instructor with the City of Phoenix throughout college, and pursued a career in education after graduating from Arizona State University. Although she missed spending time in the water, she is happy that she pursued other educational career avenues because those experiences brought her back to her first love: teaching water safety and swim technique. Hello swimmers and parents! My name is Elyse Johnston and I am so excited to be joining the SwimGuru instructor team and help your kids get started down the road to swimming success. I have over 20 years of combined swimming and coaching experience, where I was first taught to swim by my parents as a baby, and then able to hone my skills by joining our local swim team at age six. I swam competitively for the next thirteen years, through my first year at Smith College, where I studied biology and Spanish. I am passionate about stroke skills, and even if your child never plans to race I still hope to use my years of experience in the pool and on deck as a instructor and coach to help them reach their full potential in all four strokes and the foundational skills that precede them.

Coach Elyse has the following certifications:
